Even xiaomi, which has attracted much attention in the industry, has chosen to bet on the extended-range track for its first product. At the same time, due to the rapid growth in sales of hybrid models, the proportion of pure electric passenger cars has declined this year.
So, in addition to the brand premium factor, in fact, fuel cars, pure electric cars and hybrid models, whose value retention rate is more bearable?

In 2021, BYD Qin PLUS DM-i was listed on the market, focusing on the strategy of "fuel and electricity at the same price", Qin PLUS DM-i was priced at 115,800 RMB, which was already quite competitive in the market at that time.

The real climax of the "same price for oil and electricity" is Tesla's sudden official price cut in January this year. Only three days after the price cut, Tesla harvested 30,000 new car orders. At first, the industry thought that Tesla's price cut was snatching away potential customers of other pure electric models, but later research showed that its price war swept the market including fuel cars and hybrid cars. Affected by this, major car companies either offer discounts in disguise by giving away rights and benefits, or directly cut prices officially, hoping to improve their competitiveness, retain potential customers and defend their market share.

In February this year, BYD launched the new Qin PLUS DM-i 2023 Champion Edition with five models. In the case of the same power and energy consumption advantages with the joint venture brand fuel car, the price of its low-end version is only 99,800 yuan, which is BYD and even the country's first price as low as 100,000 yuan of plug-in hybrid models. The most "volume" is that the car in the performance, configuration, driving range and other aspects of a substantial increase, but the price is "plus quantity without price increase".

Among them, three 70km pure electric drive models priced at 70 Lite models 89,900 yuan, 70 Air models 93,900 yuan, 70 Pro models 103,900 yuan; three 145km pure electric drive models, priced at 145 Air models 116,900 yuan, 145 Pro models 122,900 yuan, 145 Max models 132,900 yuan.

Relying on mature hybrid technology, Toyota, Honda, Nissan and other brands to further expand the hybrid camp, this year also began to emphasise the "fuel and electricity at the same price". GAC Honda 11 generation Accord plug-in, FAW Toyota Corolla intelligent electric hybrid twin engine, Dongfeng Nissan Qijun super hybrid electric drive, etc. are all without exception on the "fuel and electricity at the same price" label.

Rapid growth of hybrid models

Programmable power, plug-in hybrid models high sales growth momentum continues to 2023. In the first half of this year, data show that plug-in hybrid and extended range models sold 935,000 units, up 105.73 per cent year-on-year. Among them, sales of plug-in hybrid models were 727,000 units, up 92.28 per cent year-on-year, while sales of range-extended models were 208,000 units, up 141.86 per cent year-on-year.
As plug-in hybrid models are widely accepted by the market, mainstream car companies such as Great Wall and Geely are vigorously developing plug-in hybrid technology routes. For example, Great Wall's Lemon Hybrid DHT can realise various working modes such as EV driving, series drive, parallel drive, direct engine drive, energy recovery, etc., and realise the balance between power and fuel consumption under various driving scenarios through intelligent switching of the control system. The Lemon Hybrid DHT has been equipped in all models of Great Wall Motor's Wei brand and some models of Haval brand.

As for Ideal, which adopts the range-extending technology, its sales surge this year is even more remarkable. Data disclosed by Ideal showed that its sales in the first three quarters of this year were 244,200 units. In its third-quarter earnings report, Ideal gave a delivery guidance of 125,000 to 128,000 units for the fourth quarter, with year-on-year growth of 169.9 to 176.3 per cent.
