BYD DMO's "Wild Hope"

On 16th August, BYD's professional personalised vehicle brand, Equation Leopard, held the "Equation Leopard Brand and Technology Launch" at BYD's Pingshan headquarters in Shenzhen. In addition to the Equation Leopard brand and its three heavyweight models, the DMO (Dual Mode Off-Road) super hybrid off-road platform, which carries the brand's core proprietary technology, also attracted a great deal of attention from the industry. BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu said, "The replacement of oil by electricity is only a small part of the transformation of the car; electricity, is rewriting the underlying logic of the whole dimension of the car." With the advent of the era of automobile personalisation, Equation Leopard will take the models equipped with DMO platform technology as a starting point to reshape the market rules of hardcore SUVs and sports cars, and realise "individuality affirmative action" with epoch-making new energy technology.

Breaking the "Impossible" of Traditional Perception


DMO adopts the new hybrid non-load-bearing structure, based on CTC battery chassis integration technology, with technical advantages in high-performance chassis, intelligent electric four-wheel drive and off-road special hybrid assembly, and is equipped with the intelligent hydraulic body control system of the Yun-van-P, which realises a breakthrough in traditional off-road in the aspects of safety, power, off-road performance and comfort, and energy consumption.

Based on the new hybrid non-load-bearing architecture, DMO decouples the upper and lower bodies through flexible connections, with the lower body focusing on the high-performance chassis to create hardcore off-road performance, and the upper body focusing on safety protection, cabin space, and comfortable driving experience. In the middle, the 10-point flexible connection and 8-point power suspension isolate vibration and noise and reduce the impact of road vibration on the cabin, so that the performance of the upper and lower bodies can be brought to the extreme.

As one of the core technologies of DMO, CTC Battery Chassis Integration Technology integrates off-road-exclusive double-layer blade batteries for structural integration and space maximisation. With CTC technology, DMO chassis space utilisation can be increased by 49.7% compared to traditional fuel vehicle architecture. At the same time, the extreme integration of the battery and chassis empowers the dual force transmission paths, and the torsional stiffness of the large frame can be increased by 38% compared with traditional fuel off-road vehicles. The vehicle's positive collision intrusion is reduced by 25%, and the side column collision intrusion is reduced by 30%. CTC's battery chassis integration allows the vehicle's centre of mass to be lowered by a maximum of 110mm compared to the structure of a traditional fuel vehicle, and the stability angle of the lateral inclination is greater than 44 degrees, which reduces the risk of rollover of the entire vehicle. The safe and stable structural design also makes the centre of mass tend to the middle point, which can achieve the golden axle load ratio of 50:50 and improve the driving stability.
Breaking through technical bottlenecks

DMO is equipped with the world's first longitudinal EHS electric hybrid system, compatible with 1.5T and 2.0T longitudinal Snapdragon high-power engines, adopting high compression ratio, high thermal efficiency, high-pressure fuel injection system and other technologies, while the off-road-specific rear-wheel drive electric assembly has a maximum power of 285kW and a maximum torque of 400N-m, and the first to be equipped with a dedicated low-speed off-road gear with 21 speed ratios, which can provide more than 8,000N-m of wheel-end torque. At the same time, DMO's electric drive system can quickly and accurately capture wheel-end dynamics and road surface information, and accurately control power output and torque distribution according to the different attachment conditions of each wheel, keeping the entire vehicle stable during driving.
CTC battery chassis integration
As a sign of off-road performance, DMO is equipped with an intelligent triple lock consisting of two inter-wheel differential locks and one inter-axle energy centre lock to meet the extreme torque requirements of extrication scenarios, especially extreme off-road scenarios with single or even multiple wheels skidding. Compared with traditional mechanical locks, the inter-wheel electronic differential lock can quickly identify the wheel speed difference, and through intelligent control, actively lock and exit in real time, subverting the frequent opening and closing logic of mechanical locks. In addition, the unique energy centre lock of the electric 4WD can achieve torque transfer between the front and rear axles within 10 milliseconds, which is 30 times faster than the mechanical centre lock.
Significantly increase market influence

In terms of technology development, BYD has come up with a new "electric-based" off-road technology route. The new hybrid non-load-bearing architecture technology based on CTC battery chassis integration technology, together with the off-road-specific hybrid architecture and the Cloud Chariot-P intelligent hydraulic body control system, help the whole vehicle realise the "high-level hardcore off-road" concept.
