Tank 300: A Unique Fusion of Off-Road Robustness and Modern Luxury
From its exterior design, the Tank 300 sets itself apart from most SUVs in the market. It boasts a prominent, high engine hood and raised body lines that emphasize its muscular build. The wide decorative strips on the integrated front grille add a commanding presence. The detail in combining turn signals with circular headlights adds a subtle yet striking touch. Integrating the fundamental geometric elements of "square" and "circle" from traditional Chinese culture into its design is what I believe makes the Tank 300 truly unique. The sense of power also comes from its perfectly sized dimensions:4760 x 1930 x 1903 mm (length x width x height) with a wheelbase of 2750 mm. These dimensions provide excellent off-road passability and handling. Features like the outward-bulging front bumper with a winch, the rear bumper with a trailer hook, the external rear-mounted spare tire, and the black protective panels around the wheel arches add a lot of imaginative fun to this little "toy."
The interior of the Tank 300 is similarly designed, with a blend of circular and square elements. It's equipped with a 12.3-inch dual screen, a round mechanical pointer quartz watch, an aviation-style electronic gear shift, and diamond-stitched seats and door interiors. Calling it a luxury SUV oriented towards comfort wouldn't be wrong. The direct and gentle mix is most evident in the Tank 300's powerful off-road capability and luxurious technology configuration. The Tank 300 features a non-load-bearing chassis, with a 33° approach angle,34° departure angle, and 23.1° ramp-over angle. The minimum ground clearance is 224 mm, with a maximum climbing grade of 70%, and a water fording depth of 700 mm. During test drives, when facing shell craters or A-frame slopes, the Tank 300's differential lock can mechanically lock the front/rear axle differentials within 200 milliseconds and electronically lock the central transfer case, ensuring 100% of the engine's traction is transferred to the wheels with grip, easily overcoming such cross-axle road surfaces.
For avid off-road enthusiasts, the "creep mode"– a feature typically found in hall-of-fame SUVs – is familiar, and it's available in the Tank 300. On China's steepest slopes, I put the Tank 300 in low-speed four-wheel drive and activated creep mode. The vehicle then climbed at a set speed, and I only needed to control the direction without worrying about the throttle intensity, almost like an off-road version of autopilot. Off-roading often involves navigating extremely narrow paths, and making a U-turn on a dead-end road can be a headache. The Tank 300's "tank turn" function solves this problem efficiently. When the system detects that the steering wheel angle exceeds a set value, the EPB braking system applies braking force to the inner rear wheels to reduce the turning radius. The turning radius of the Tank 300 can be reduced by up to 1.2 meters, making it feel like driving a compact car.
The 360-degree surround view system and transparent chassis feature also allow you to more intuitively view information around the vehicle, effectively avoiding risks like sharp stones puncturing tires or protruding rocks causing underbody damage. Its independently developed latest generation ATS all-terrain control system is reminiscent of the Land Rover Discovery. By collecting data from numerous professional off-roaders successfully navigating various terrains, the Tank 300 has compiled a digital intelligent control system with eight basic modes including two-wheel drive standard (2H), four-wheel drive standard (4H), four-wheel drive snow (4H), and low-speed four-wheel drive (4L standard, bumpy road, mud, mountain, rock). Additionally, if you are an off-road expert, you can switch to "Expert Mode," turn off the ESP, and experience the ultimate thrill of "drifting" on rocks.
Of course, all these features require strong power as a guarantee. The Tank 300's 2.0T engine has a maximum power output of 167 kW and a maximum torque of 387 N•m. Combined with a ZF-customized 8AT transmission and a transfer case structure, it can achieve a 2.48 times torque magnification – key to comfortable climbing and off-roading.
